How to Devote Your Life to the Lord
7 Day Series
Day 2: Finding Your Identity in Christ
Scripture:
2 Corinthians 5:17 – "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
Reflection:
True devotion to God begins by understanding and embracing our identity in Christ. When we come to Christ, we are made new. This passage in 2 Corinthians 5:17 speaks of a profound transformation. When we accept Christ, the old self, with its mistakes, insecurities, and false identities, is gone. What remains is the new creation, defined by God’s love and grace. This is the foundation of our devotion: we no longer live according to the world’s standards, labels, or expectations but are defined by our relationship with Jesus.
Our world often encourages us to find our worth in external things, our careers, social status, appearance, accomplishments, or relationships. These identities, however, are fragile and fleeting. They can shift or disappear, leaving us lost or uncertain of who we are. But when we find our identity in Christ, we discover something eternal. Our worth is no longer tied to what we do or what others think of us, but to who we are in Him. We are children of God, loved unconditionally, chosen, forgiven, and set free.
To devote our lives to God, we must embrace this new identity wholeheartedly. It’s not about striving to meet society’s standards of success or approval; it’s about recognizing that, in Christ, we already have everything we need. Our value is secure because of who we are in Him, not because of our achievements or failures. Embracing this truth is key to living a life fully devoted to God. It frees us from the pressures and anxieties of self-worth, allowing us to focus entirely on fulfilling God’s purposes for our lives.
When we truly accept our new identity, we begin to see the world, ourselves, and others differently. We are no longer bound by past mistakes, fears, or shame. Our confidence is rooted in Christ’s love for us, not in our ability to measure up. As we grow in our understanding of this identity, our lives begin to reflect Christ more and more, and our devotion deepens. We are no longer living for ourselves but for the One who gave us new life.
Action Step:
Write down the things you identify with in the world, your job, status, relationships, or achievements. Now, reflect on how these things fall short in comparison to the identity you have in Christ. Ask God to help you replace any worldly identifiers with your true identity in Him.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to see myself the way You see me. I am Your child, and I want my life to reflect that truth.
